The people you see here are not disabled.
Yet they were having a very difficult time walking up what is essentially two flights of stairs this morning. There’s no elevator at this 238th St. station. The 231st Street station, which does have one, is 7 blocks away. The 238th St. station needs an elevator. What can people with any kind of walking difficulty do if they need to get downtown in a timely manner? If you have other thoughts/ideas, please share.
I think it will be a long time coming. My impression is that the NYC Transit will say the 231st Street stop elevator is sufficient to delay doing the 238th Street stop until far into the future. Part of the endless and ongoing work on the 242nd Street should require that an elevator be installed at the location, but they are not doing it.
I’m currently on crutches and, I tell you it’s a pain to use public transportation in my condition. This is probably one of the worst cities in America to be disabled or have mobility issues.
